Charles Dewey Cole, Jr. was born April 8, 1922 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Charles Dewey, Sr & Oda Orien Baldridge Cole.

Charles, Jr. married Mary Clair Blair May 1, 1944 at Dyer, Gibson Co., Tennessee.

2Lt Cole, stationed at Ridgewell, England, was attached to 381st Bomber group, 535th Bomb Squadron. The 381st Bomb Group flew B-17 Flying Fortresses from Ridgewell, Essex between June 1943 and April 1945. The Group was awarded two Distinguished Unit Citations, the first for bombing shipyards at Bremen, whilst under heavy attack, on 8 October 1943 and the second was awarded to the 1st Bomb Division as a whole for flying without fighter protection to bomb aircraft factories at Oschersleben on 11 January 1944.

On July 4th, 1944 Lt Cole's plane piloted by Lt. Bobref, was on a mission to Tours France. The reports below tell the story of that mission where 2Lt Cole lost his life.
