Buford Woodrow Elkins was born Sept 3, 1913 in Magazine, Logan Co., Arkansas to William Eliott & Lillie Lee Tobey Elkins. October 21, 1933 Buford married Lelia Leona Catlett in Logan County, Ar.

Buford Eklins registered for the military draft October 16, 1940 at Paris, Logan Co. Ar. He served in the 748th Base Equipment Engineers and received a Honorable Discharge January 6, 1946.

Tec 4 Buford Woodrow Elkins passed away October 12, 2010 at Barling, Sebastian Co., Ar. and was buried in Old Union Cemetery in Magazine, Logan Co., Ar.

Buford W. Elkins, 97, of Barling, Arkansas (formerly of Magazine) died October 12, 2010. He was born September 3, 1913 in Magazine, Arkansas, the son of William Elliot Elkins and Lillie Lee (Tobey) Elkins. He was a World War II Army Veteran with service in the European and Pacific Theatres. He served his community as a past member of the VFW, Magazine School Board, and was the founding president of the Magazine Community Improvement Club. He was a Magazine Rural Letter Carrier for approximately 25 years and was a Member Elder of Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Buford loved his family and family gatherings. He excelled in woodworking, mechanics, welding and antique furniture repair.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife of 54 years, Lelia Leona (Catlett) Elkins, and his sister, Buena Vista (Elkins) Yancy.

Survivors are two daughters, Betty Jean (Elkins) Schackmann and husband Don of Bedford, Indiana and Irma Dean (Elkins) Johnson of Magazine; one son, Damon Lee Elkins and wife Peggy of Fort Smith; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve and Scott Elkins, Daniel Johnson, Jackie Strickland, Dave and Neal Catlett. Honorary pallbearers will be June Roberts, Gene Beck, Jimmy Khilling, Eugene McDonald, and Bill Staton.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church with interment at Old Union Cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Booneville Funeral Service.
