Pfc Joseph Angelo Ferrari was born 24 Feb 1921 to Joseph Pete & Viola May Newman Ferrari Joseph enlisted in the US Army 10 Oct 1942 in Little Rock, Ar.

On April 21, 1945 24 year old Pfc Ferrari was killed while fighting the enemy at Okinawa, Japan. He was not in a Medical Installation Prior to Death. Diagnosis: "Diagnosis: Wound(s), penetrating (point of entrance only: includes incised, puncture or stab wound) with no nerve or artery involvement; Location: Side of body; Causative Agent: Artillery Shell, Fragments, Afoot or unspecified Battle casualty;" He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He is buried in the Steep Hill cemetery in Sebastian Co., Ar.

Barling Youth is Killed on Okinawa


Private First Class Joseph A. (Junior) Ferrari, 24 years old, a member of the 381st Infantry, was killed in action on Okinawa last April 24, according a telegram from the war department received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Ferrari, of Barling.

A former employe of the Arcade, Private Ferrari had been in the army two and a half years, having participated in combat in the Philippines and Okinawa.

Private Ferrari before moving to Barling lived in Jenny Lind, where he received his schooling.

He was stationed at four army posts prior to overseas duty, Camp Adair, Ore., Camp White, Ore., Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Fort Lewis, Wash.

Survivors include his parents, four brothers, Richard, of the home. Eugene, stationed with army forces in Italy, Kenneth Ray and Bobby Charles, both of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Pat Brush, and Myrtle Marie, of the home; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Jenny Newman, Barling.
