Billy Joe Fields was born Dec. 5, 1921 in Mansfield Sebastian Co., Ar., to John Benton & Talulla May Tyler Fields. August 2, 1947 Bill married Geraldine Herrington, both from Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. at that time.

Bill registered for the military draft Feb. 16, 1942 at Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. He says his residence at that time was Little Rock, Pulaski Co., Ar. His place of birth he gives as Mansfield, Ar. He achieved the rank or Tec5 in the US Army. No further information on his time in the service was available.

Billy and wife were residents at Hackett at one time. In the 1953 Fort Smith, Ar. City Directory Bill J. Fields is listed along with wife Geraldine. His occupation is "Counterman". On Nov 11, 2013 Billy Joe Fields passed away at Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Mr. Billy J. "Bill" Fields of Hackett, Arkansas, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at Greenwood, Arkansas. Mr. Fields was 91 years and 11 months old. He was a retired business owner; a member of the Hackett United Methodist Church; a member of the Sertoma Club; and a loving husband; father; brother; uncle; friend.

Mr. Fields was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved wife: Geraldine Fields. He is survived by 3 daughters: Terri (Fields) Heavener, Debe (Fields) Varnell, and Kathy (Fields) Middleton; 1 brother: David Fields; 10 precious grandchildren; 12 wonderful great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many dear friends.

Funeral service was held on Wednesday morning, November 13, 2013, at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, Arkansas. Pallbearers were his grandsons.
