Roy Webster Fisher

Roy Webster Fisher was born March 10, 1915 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to George Washington & Rose Ella Lee Fisher. December 12, 1952 he married Rose Ann Yager of Fort Smith, Ar. On the 1950 Fort Smith census Roy says he is divorced but I have not found another marriage except the one above.

October 1, 1940 Roy registered for the military draft at the Fort Smith Junior High School. October 2, 1942 he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps or US Air Force as it was known after 1941, and served until September 21, 1945. On his enlistment record he states he has completed 1 year of high school and he is married. His civil occupation is listed as "Semiskilled occupations in production of glass". His employer before he enlisted was Harding Glass in Fort Smith, Ar.

Roy served with the 434th Troop Carrier Group of the Air Force. Click on the red link to learn more about the 434th. His final rank was Staff Sergeant. He received the Air Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster on May 18, 1945. The Air Medal (AM) is a military decoration of the United States Armed Forces. It was created in 1942 and is awarded for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. After the 1st Air Medal (AM)award subsequent awards are annotated with the traditional oak leaf clusters (or OLCs).

Roy Webster Fisher passed away December 18, 1996 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. and is buried at the Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
