Emery Edwin Freeman was born in Island, Beverly and rural Lavaca area of Sebastian Co., Ar. on the 3 Sep 1921 to Alfred Edwin & Alice Jane Reed Freeman. On his draft card dated 16 Feb 1942 he gives Lavaca. Ar. as the place he registered.

S/Sgt Freeman was awarded a Silver Star for his actions on 26 November 1944. The citation reads: On 26 November 1944 in France. During an attack on St. Avold, France, on 26 November 1944, S/Sgt Freeman ordered the machine gun section which he commanded to move forward in order to relieve pressure on a rifle platoon delayed by heavy enemy fire. All of the members of one of his gun crews were wounded leaving no one to man the gun. Disregarding personal danger, S/Sgt Freeman, alone, carried the heavy gun and a box of ammunition two hundred and fifty yards into a position from which he so effectively fired that the riflemen were able to move to cover. Ordering his men to withdraw, he then assisted his wounded men to safety after securing the weapon.

TSgt Freeman was killed in Action 12 Feb 1945. His wounds were described as being on the side of body caused by Artillery Shell & Fragments.
He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal with 2 Oak Leafs and the Silver Star Medal.

The Silver Star Medal is awarded for singular acts of valor or heroism over a brief period, such as one or two days of a battle.

TSgt Freeman was buried at Plot B Row 2 Grave 13 Luxembourg American Cemetery Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
