David Lee Gibson
1917-1988


David Lee Gibson was born December 25, 1917 to Lee Andrew & Margaret Elizabeth Brookshire Gibson in Sebastian Co. Arkansas.

David registered for the military draft October 16, 1940 in Mt. SandelsTownship, Sebastian Co., Ar. He was a member of the National Guard at that time. He enlisted in the US Army, branch was Field Artillery January 6, 1941. His civil occupation was "Plumbers, gas fitters, and steam fitters" and he had a grammar school education. His discharge date was April 20, 1952. He again enlisted in the US Army September 1, 1959 and served until December 9, 1959. His rank was Major at retirement. He served in WWII as well as Korea.

"David Lee Gibson enlisted in the 142d FA in Fort Smith 2 Oct 40 and mobilized with the battalion 6 Jan 41. He served in the 937th until the war ended. After the war he attended Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He mobilized again with the Battery C 937th FA out of Ozark as the Battery Commander. He served in Korea when it gave distinguished service at Hongchon, Korea receiving the Presidential Unit Citation. He assumed Command of 2d Battalion 142d FA on 1 November 1966 and served until 3 October 1967."

Maj. David Lee Gibson passed away April 7, 1988 and was buried at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.
