Alton Lloyd Gilliam was born January 27, 1916 in Sebastian Co., Arkansas on Backbone Mountain to Albert & Minnie Bell Pettigrew Gilliam. August 16, 1939 Alton married Ruby Lee Mason of Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar., and so began his life in Sebastian Co. Ar. Alton registered for the military draft October 16, 1940 at Prairie, Charleston, Franklin Co., Arkansas. His enlistment was on December 28, 1944 at Camp Josepth T Robinson in Little Rock, Ar. After the war he is listed in several Fort Smith, Ar City Directories. He states on his enlistment record that he had a grammar school education and was a farmer. Alton Lloyd Gilliam passed away on April 5, 1992 in Van Buren, Crawford Co. Ar. and was buried in Gill Cemetery, Van Buren, Ar.
