Henry Eugene Hamilton

Henry Eugene Hamilton was born in LeFlore Co., Oklahoma 16 Oct 1919. Before 1930 Charley Quincy & Daisy May Padgett Hamilton had moved their family to Hartford, Sebastian Co., Ar. where Henry grew up. Henry was employed by Williams Weldon & Lick in Fort Smith before the war.

Pfc Henry Eugene Hamilton served with the 27 Inf 25 Inf Div and lost his life in battle action 13 Jan 1943 at Guadal Canal. He is buried in the Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S., National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

U.S. Army: On Guadalcanal, XIV Corps offensive broadens as 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division completes the capture of Galloping Horse with the reduction of Hill 53 by 2d Battalion, although mopping up operations will continue until January 22, 1943. Americans now hold 4,500-yard front extending south from Point Cruz over Hill 66 to Hill 57 and Hill 55. Co C, 35th Infantry Regiment, is again halted by enemy fire from southwest as it endeavors to push west. 2d Battalion makes negligible progress against strongpoints including pillboxes in The Gifu.

Pfc Hamilton was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in action & the Purple Heart.
