James Hinton Harmon, Jr. was born July 3, 1925 in Fort Smith, Seastian Co. Ar. to James Hinton Sr. & Gerada A Downs. September 16, 1948 James married Margaret Ann Bryan, both residing in Fort Smith, Ar.

James registered for the military draft November 7, 1945 at the court house in Fort Smith, Ar. The US Department of Veterans Affairs Death File shows that James enlisted in the service in 1938. His birth records and several other documents give his birth year as 1925. So his enlistment date is unknown. His service was with the US Army Air Corps, later known as the US Air Force. He served as an AVN Cadet.
(In June 1941, Congress created the grade of aviation cadet for student pilots, navigators, and bombardiers in the new US Army Air Forces. Most student bombardiers would graduate as second lieutenants or flight officers. Most new bombardiers were trained in the desert southwest section of the US, which offered ample space for bombing ranges.)

James Hinton Harmon, Jr. passed away March 21, 2008 and is buried at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. Ar.
