Francis Jean Harrison
1914-2004



Francis Jean Harrison was born August 28. 1914 in Diamond Twsp, Sebastian Co., Ar. to John Robert Earl & Mamie Alexander Jean Harrison. The family lived on the Midlandt Dayton Road. February 12, 1938 Jean, then living in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. married Lillian Celestian Hickey from Barling, Sebastian Co., Ar.

October 16, 1940 Jean registered for the military draft. On May 8, 1944 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served until February 16, 1946. His daughter Rebecca Harrison Rather adds this note....."He was at Camp Penelton and in Guam. While in California-he was interviewed by Authur Godfrey and my grandmother heard it on the radio." Nothing more is known about his time in the service.

Francis Jean Harrison passed away April 17, 2004 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His burial was in Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.

F. Jean Harrison, 89, of Fort Smith passed away peacefully Saturday, April 17, 2004 at his home in Fort Smith. He was born August 28, 1914 in Greenwood to John and Mamie Harrison.

He was a retired painting contractor, a member of First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Aldersgate Sunday School class, Western Arkansas Consistory, Amrita Grotto, Belle Point Lodge No. 20, Harmony Chapter No. 455 and RSVP.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Celestial Harrison and his parents.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Rather and her husband, John of Little Rock; a son, Richard Harrison and his wife Marcia of Burleson, Texas; a sister-in-law, Katheryn Harrison of Tulsa; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was at Roebuck Chapel with burial at Forest Park Cemetery.

Pallbeareres were Ken Bell, Don Bearden, Dan Ogden, Harl and Jon Schoeppe, Scott Campbell and Eugene Spangler. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Aldersgate Sunday school class.
