Willice Derosa House
1923-2003

Submitted by Lavaca Historical Museum

Willice Derosa House was born Apr 18, 1924 in Beverly Twsp, Sebastian Co., Ar. to William Andrew & Mary Ellen "Dollie" McCarty House. He married Patty Lou Hooper. Have not found a date for the marriage.

Willice registered for the military draft June 30, 1942 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Arkansas. The only military record I have found except for his draft cards is a list of sailors returning from the Pacific on board the S.S. Cape Mendocinon. He was listed as rank of Seaman 1class. He received a honorable discharge from the US Navy on Nov. 26, 1945.

On his return to the U.S. he located in Bakersfield Calif. At some point in time his wife Patty joined him there. The story of what kept him in California is told in the news articles below. Willice and Patty are found later living in Bakersfield, Ca. with a listing in the city directory. At some date before his death he and Patty returned to Arkansas, living in Ozark, Ar.

This is the "Rest of the Story" for the clippings below:
from Mel Santos

Most of the House family were in Button Willow Calif while Willice was in the Navy. That's where he got out. He sowed a few wild oats then visited his sister, Vesta in Tahatchabee TB sanatorium, Calif. That’s where he met his future wife Patty. She also was being treated for TB. I’m not sure how many years Vesta and Patty spent in the hospital but they both lost a lung and other parts from their illness. But Willce married her and took her two young children to raise as his own. Theirs was truly a match made in Heaven. Her husband had been killed in a car accident.

He and Pat lived in Bakersfield many years having two children. It must have been in the 70s when they moved back to Arkansas where they settled in Charleston where he was Mayor of Charleston for many years. Both kids graduated high school in Charleston, both went thru nursing school. The boy went into the Air Force nursing where he achieved the rank of Colonel.
