Edgar Ralph Hudson was born 30 Aug 1915 in Denning, Franklin Co., Ar to Tom S. & Allie Finn Hudson.

Edgar registered for the draft in Mesa Rica, San Miquel, New Mexico on Oct 16, 1940. He listed his mother and said she resided in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. She is found in the Fort Smith City Directory in 1951, He enlisted in the US Army in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 18 Feb 1941 for the Philippine Department. Pvt. Hudson was assigned to the 31 Infantry.

In Jan 1942 Pvt. Hudson was admitted to the hospital at Post of Manila, Philippine Islands for a battle casualty, wound penetrating left hip from bullet or missile. He was treated and returned to duty. The 31st Infantry, which Pvt Hudson was part of, remained in reserve through February and March 1942, suffering continuously from starvation and sickness. The men were called upon one last time in early April to counterattack Japanese penetrations of Filipino lines. The Americans were now so weak that many could not make the march into combat.

EDGAR R. HUDSON
The body of Private Edgar R. Hudson, 26 years old, of Fort Smith, who died May 30, 1942, in a Japanese prison camp, will arrive Tuesday afternoon for funeral service and reburial.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Ferguson, American Legion chaplain, officiating. Burial will be at the National Cemetery.

Private Hudson received the Purple Heart for wounds on Corregidor in January 1942, and, after being returned to duty, was captured by the Japanese and died soon afterwards. He was a member of the infantry.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Allie Hudson, and three sisters: Mrs. Loyd Wells of Roland, Okla., and Mrs. John Perry and Mrs. Vernon King of Fort Smith.
