Leland Eugene "Pete" Hurt was born Sept 11, 1920 at Mansfield, Sebastian Co., Ar. to John Manuel & Millie Elizabeth "Bessie" Niblett Hurt. (some records give his birth year at 1919) September 11 1941 Pete married Ina Belle Slate, both being from Mansfield.

On December 26, 1945 M/Sgt Pete E. Hurt enlisted at Fort Smith, Ar in the Coast Artillery Corps or Army Mine Planter Service. He had been serving in the National Guard previous to this. Capt. Hurt also served in the Korean War. Nothing more is known about his service except when he retired he had the rank of Captain.

Capt. Leland Eugene "Pete" Hurt passed away May 9, 2004 at Mansfield, Sebastian Cc., Ar. and is buried in Coop Praire Cemetery there.

Pete Eugene Hurt, 83, of Mansfield, Arkansas died Sunday, May 9, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born September 11, 1920, in Mansfield, Arkansas. He was a retired Army captain, was a member of Coop Prairie Church and chaplain of VFW Post No. 8245, was retired from the Postal Service and the widower of Ina Hurt.

Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Coop Prairie Church with burial at Coop Prairie Cemetery in Mansfield under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.

He is survived by a daughter, three sons, two sisters, 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Huntington VFW Post No. 8245.
