He married Ellen Pauline "Peggy" Moore 19 Mar 1938 in Sebation Co., Ar. Herman and Ellen had 2 children T.J. and Mattie Belle Johnson. Pfc. Herman Fred Johnson served in Company D, 540th Eng. Regiment 2nd B.N. . On 7 Feb 1944 in Rome, Citta Metropolitana di Roma Capitale, Lazio, Italy Pfc Johnson was killed in the line of duty. He is buried in the Steep Hill Cemetery in Sebastian Co., Ar.
