Alvernon V. Kuandart Jr. was born Oct. 31, 1924 in Bonanza, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Alvernon V. "Vernie" & Laura Belle Jones Kuandart, Sr. On 24 December 1946 in Sebastian, Co., Arkansas Albernon married Helen Irene Cattaneo.

Alvernon Kuandart, Jr., "Junior", enlisted in the US Navy June 12, 1943 at Little Rock, AR. He reported for duty aboard the USS Sigsbee DD-502, September 27, 1943, at Pearl Harbor, HI. May 1, 1944 he attained the rating of Seaman 1c, he was advanced to Gunners Mate 3c September 1, 1945.

"Junior" Kuandart died Aug 13, 2002 and is buried at the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Junior Kuandart, 77, of Bonanza died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired miner and a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Arkoma.

Funeral was 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Arkoma with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; four daughters, Linda Wright of Pocola, Kathy Morris of Bonanza, Pamela Short of Arkoma and Tanya McLaughlin of Hackett; two sons, William "Tommy" Kuandart of Little Rock and Larry Kuandart of Hackett; a sister, Mae Belle Hood of Tuscon, Ariz.; two brothers, Lonnie Kuandart of Bonanza and Johnnie Kuandart of Midland, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John Peerson, Bill Phelan, Jim Moore, Steve Kuandart, Frank Noland and Joe Lee.
