Arthur William Lairamore, Jr.
1919-2010



Arthur William Lairamore was born May 6, 1919 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co. Ar. to Arthur William 'Ott' Sr & Eula May Wright Lairamore. Arthur graduated from Fort Smith Hgh School. On Sept 10, 1952 Arthur married Virginia G Baggett in London Bridge, Princess Anne, Virginia. Although the marriage was in Virginia. where she was from, both bride and groom were living in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Arthur registered for the military draft on Sept 17, 1945 in Sebastian Co., Ar. On the draft card he indicates that he had just been discharged from the Army on Sept 5, 1945, the National Guard. Jan 6, 1941 he enlisted in the US Army in the Medical Department. He was at that time working in an office at Fort Smith. His rank was S/Sgt.

In 1955 and 1957 Arthur and Virginia are listed in the Fort Smith phone directory. Arthur is working as a food and drug inspector with the City Health Department.
On Dec. 5, 2010 Arthur passed away at Fort Smith, Ar. at age 91.

On this day, December 5, 2010, my dear husband, Arthur W. Lairamore, age 91, was ushered into the presence of Jesus where there is joy unspeakable and full of glory.

He grew up, was saved and baptized in Calvary Baptist Church, but has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church since 1946. He served as a deacon, chairman of ushers, chaired and was a member of various committees, taught boys ages 15-18 for 49 1/2 years, drove church bus and taught all boys on Sunday nights at Bethlehem Mission for eleven years. Arthur served in the U.S. Army during WW11 for five years as a combat media in N. Africa and Italy earning a Bronze Star for outstanding service in combat. He spent his working career with the Arkansas State Health Department and served a term as president of the Arkansas Society of Professional Sanitarians.

He was preceded in death by his parents, A.W. and Eula Lairamore, sisters LaVera Ann Poe and Hilda Jean Knight, and one brother Harrell S. Lairamore.

He is survived by his loving wife Virginia Lairamore of 58 years, one son Arthur Kevin Lairamore and wife Jerrie , one daughter, Kristi Wooten, four grandchildren, Arthur Kevin, Jr., Zane, Kendra and Max Wooten, one step grandson Clifford Cole and one great grandchild, Ezekiel Wooten, one brother-in-law Wade Knight of Gerogetown, TX, one niece, Paula Jean Warden and husband John of Jarrell, TX, one nephew, Karlos Knight and wife Janis and one great nephew and wife Drs. Douglas and Julie Warden of Oklahoma City, OK, three great nieces, Melaine and Marissa Warden and Amanda Knight and one great great nephew, Sher Warden.

Funeral service was at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, AR. with burial at The U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR.

Pallbearers were Eugene Cain, Les Lester, Greg Whitsett, Phillip Walters, Bill George and James Walters. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Rich, John Mays, Rick Schrader and Bob Martin.
