John Kathe Lamkin was born 27 Oct 1919 in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. to John Allen & Katherine "Kate" Quattlander Lamkin. Before 1930 they were living in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. John enlisted in the Marines Jul 29, 1941. He served as a Sgt.with Marine Division CO F 2ND BN 28 Marine 5th Marine Div. 20 Feb 1945 Marine Sgt Lamkin lost his life at Iwo Jima at one of the most costly battles of the war. He is memorialized at the Honolulu Memorial Cemetary Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii and has a marker at Forest Park Cemetery, Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. placed by his family.
