Jack Coogan Lovett was born 14th of Jan 1923 in Peno Corner, Le Flore Co., Okla. to Barto & Eula Jay Elkins Perry Lovett. Sep 2, 1950 Jack married Sarah Jimmie Lee Waters Bull from Mazzard, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Jack registered for the draft June 30, 1942 in LeFlore Co., Ok. Enlisting in the US Navy Dec 14, 1942, Jack was assigned to the USS Savo Island (CVE78). Muster reports are attached below. Lovett, Jack C., age 96, of Ballwin, formerly of Fort Smith, passed away, Monday, January 14, 2019. He was born in Peno, Oklahoma, a son of the late Bart and Eula (nee Elkins) Lovett.

Jack retired after 46 years of service as International Vice President for the Communication Workers of America (AFL-CIO), and also retired in 1983, with almost 40 years of service, as a Lt. Colonel with the Arkansas Air National Guard. He was a Reserve Air Force Officer, serving in WWII and the Korean conflict.

He was a Methodist, member of Sebastian Lodge 706, Western Arkansas Consistory in Fort Smith, a Shriner and a member of the Moolah Temple in St. Louis. A Life member of the National Guard and the Retired Officers Association.

Jack was the beloved husband of Sarah Jimmie (nee Waters) Lovett, who preceded him in death November 16, 2009; the dear father of J. Bart (Elizabeth) Lovett and the late Leslie Steven Lovett; loving grandfather to Jack Colin (Brett Murray) Lovett, James Elkins (Angela) Lovett, Samantha Elizabeth Lovett and Sarah Marie Lovett; and great-grandfather of Owen Elkins Lovett and Ivy Lynn Hope Sanning. He was preceded in death by his sisters Gladys, Lucille, Hazel, Bea, and a brother Elkins.

Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, January 18, 2019 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Thursday January 17, 2019 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
