Robert "Bobbie" Eugene "Gene" Mitch Milligan was born September 15, 1926 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County Arkansas to Vernard Le Roy & Marie Mumey Milligan. December 14, 1946 Bobbie married 16 year old Wanda Ann Whittington of Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Bob served in the US Navy with the rank of Seaman First Class. Several of his muster records from the ships he served on are below.

Robert Eugene Mitchell Milligan passed away March 10, 2015 at Waynesoro, Waynesboro City, Virginia. His burial was in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Ar.

Bobbie Gene Mitch Milligan, 88, the widower of Ana Wanda Whittington Milligan of Staunton, Va., died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at a nursing home in Waynesboro, Va. He was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Fort Smith, a son of the late Roy and Marie (Mumey) Milligan.

Mr. Milligan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Fort Smith School System as a painting contractor. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fort Smith. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a talented cartoonist and artist and an avid fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Joseph Milligan; and three sisters, Katherine Sites, Mary Ida Sloan and Nadine Sloan.

Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Stephen Faidley of Staunton; a son, Robert David Milligan of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Joy Milligan of Austin, Clayton Faidley and fiance Rachel Jones of Norman, Okla., and Lauren Faidley and fiance, Michael Sano of Durham, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Zollie.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Fort Smith. Henry Funeral Home in Staunton is handling the arrangements.












USS LST Decemer 1944

LST-652 was laid down on 24 July 1944 at Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, Seneca, Illinois. Launched on 19 October 1944 and commissioned on 1 January 1945.
During World War II, LST-652 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater. On 15 September 1945, she was reclassified as a hospital ship with the identification of LST(H)-652. She then participated in the occupation service in the Far East from 11 September 1945 until her decommissioning on 5 March 1946.
