Elwyn Luther "Bud" Mixon Jr. was born July 17, 1922 in Gowen, Latimer Co. Oklahoma to Elwyn Luther Sr. & Mabel O Wells Mixon. November 27, 1947 he married Sybil Marise Rapp, both residents of Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.

No WWII draft cards have been found for him nor has his enlistment record. From the ships muster records we can see he served on the USS Talbot, USS North Carolina, and the USS Los Angeles. Elwyn Luther Mixon, Jr. passed away October 29, 2018 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. His burial was in the Rose Lawn Park Cemetry at Fort Smith.

Elwyn L. (Bud) Mixon, Jr., 96, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 in a local hospital. He was born on July 17, 1922 in Gowen, OK to Elwyn L. and Mabel (Wells) Mixon. Elwyn became "Bud" after his oldest sister started calling him that. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign earning 11 battle stars and was honorably discharged in China in 1946. He married Marise Rapp in 1947 and was happily married for 55 years until her death in 2003. He was a retired instructor of painting and wallcovering for the Job Corps. Bud loved gardening, sharing his bounty with his family; he also raised catfish and occasionally hunted. He was a faithful member of Highway 45 Church of Christ in Midland, AR. He was preceded in death by his wife Marisa and a granddaughter Amanda Poston.

Funeral services are 10:00AM, Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home with private burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

He is survived by his three daughters, Deborah Dolan and her husband Carl of Fort Smith, Candace Berry and her husband Gimo of Bonanza AR and Rebecca Conner and her husband Benny of Fort Smith; three sons, Mick Mixon and his wife Pam of Greenwood, Joel Mixon and Marcie Bell of Rudy and Patrick Mixon of Greenwood; Eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
