December 18, 1942 Charles registered for the military draft at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. He enlisted in the US Army July 7, 1943. His rank was Tec5. He was discharged January 12, 1946. His biography below tells more.

Mr. Charles L. Overton of Greenwood, Arkansas died Saturday, January 11, 2014, in Fort Smith. Mr. Overton was 89 years old. He was a retired carpenter; a United States ARMY veteran of World War II; a member of River of Life Fellowship Church; and a hard worker.

Mr. Overton was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved wife: Verdia Overton. He is survived by 2 daughters: Virginia (Overton) Floyd and her hsuband: Dale, and Kathryn (Overton) Davis and her husband: Ike; 4 sons: Ed Overton and his wife: Debra, James Overton and his wife: Linda, Bob Overton and his wife: Pam, and John Overton and his wife: Nikki; 2 sisters: Mary Clark, and Emily McLaughlin, 1 brother: Earl Overton, 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Howard Hill Assembly of God Church. Pallbearers were his grandsons.
