Wayne Monroe Thomas

Wayne Monroe Thomas was born May 17, 1922 in Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Edgar Eugene & Lula Mae Wise Thomas. On September 24, 1946 Wayne married Wyema M. Hale, both residing at Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar.

June 30, 1942 Wayne registered for the military draft at San Diego, California. He enlisted in the US Army April 9, 1943 at Little Rock, Arkansas. His residence at that time was Sebastian Co., Ar., his occupation was farm hand and he had complelted 2 years of high school. I found 2 different enlistment dates, the other one being April 16, 1943. He was discharged from the army March 25, 1946. No other military information is found.

Wayne Monroe Thomas passed away October 3, 2001 and was buried at Oak Valley Cemetery, Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Source: Times Record. Fort Smith, Arkansas Wayne M. Thomas, 79, of Harrison, formerly of Lavaca, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Harrison. He was born May 17, 2001, in Lavaca.

He was a retired Civil Service employee at Fort Chaffee, he trained bird dogs and was a member of the Westark Field Trial Association and was a member of Lavaca First Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Lavaca with burial at Oak Valley Cemetery south of Lavaca under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Wyema; two sons, Ronnie Thomas of Conway and Lawrence Thomas of Fort Smith; three sisters, Bessie Ashworth and Ruby Wadsworth, both of Fort Smith and Gladys McCrory of Lavaca; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Sean, Bradley and Mike Thomas, Kevin Richardson, Jimmy Lee, Jay Billingsley, Woody and Rayburn Green.

The body may be viewed 2 p.m. today until funeral hour. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
