James Benjamin "J.B." Turner, Jr. was born 14 Dec 1914 in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. to James Benjamin Sr. & Stella Mae Herriman Turner. They lived at 710 S. 20th in Fort Smith when James Jr. was born. By 1940 James, Jr. was a truck driver for the ice company. He had completed 4 years of high school.

On 16 Oct 1940 J. B. regristered for the military draft. He was living at 619 No. 39th in Fort Smith, Ark. He was working for the ice company at that time.

On 16 Mar 1945 as part of the Forty-first Division in the Philippines Pfc.J.B. Turner, Jr. was killed in the line of duty on the battlefield from ultiple Wound(s). Location was the Thorax generally. The cause was Bullet or Missile unqualified. Pfc. J. B. Turner was not in a Medical Installation Prior to Death. His body was returned to the states for burial in Rose Lawn Park Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Funeral service for Private First Class J.B. Turner, 30 years old, Fort Smith, who was killed in action March 16, 1945 in the Philippines will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Fentress Mortuary Chapel. Dr. B.V. Ferguson and Rev. Norman Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.

Private Turner was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Turner, 1610 North Thirty-Ninth [sic] Street. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. While overseas, he served with the Forty-first Division.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Lavada Shively, Modesto, Calif.

PRIVATE J.B. TURNER


Funeral service for Private First Class J.B. Turner, 30 years old, who was killed in action March 16, 1945 in the Philippines will be held Monday. The hour is not yet scheduled.

Service earlier was set for 2:30 p.m. Friday, but Fentress Mortuary attaches, who will have charge of arrangements, announced the service would be postponed because of delay in arrival of the body of the the returned World War II soldier.

Private Turner was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Turner, 619 [sic] North Thirty-Ninth [sic] Street. He had lived in Fort Smith all his life and was a graduate of the Fort Smith High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. While overseas, he served with the Forty-first Division.

Survivors, besides the parents, include a sister, Lavada Shively, Modesto, California.
