Lecel Jefferson Vernon was born July 2, 1919 in Eudora, Chicot Co., Ar. to John Thomas & Iretta Nesmith Vernon. June 8, 1947 Lecel married Mary Isabelle McNulty. Her residence was Crawford Co. They married in Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar.

The 16th of Oct 1940 Lecel registered for the Miitary draft at Belle Pointe school in Fort Smith, Ar. He enlisted in the US Navy. He rank was a CM3, Construction Mechanic Third Class. No other information has been found about his service.

March 24, 2008 Lecel Jefferon Vernon passed away at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. and is buried at the National Cemetery there.

Lecel Jefferson Vernon of Fort Smith(Sebastian County), Arkansas, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Crawford Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. He was 88 years old. Lecel was born July 2, 1919. He was a master carpenter by trade and retired from the United Brotherhood & Joiners of America, after 55 years. He was also a U.S. Navy "Seabee" in World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater. Lecel was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Isabelle Vernon; four daughters: Mary Loupe of Nederland, Texas, Norman Jean McKaughan of Van Buren, Arkansas, Alyce Herbert of Lumberton, Texas, Darlene Werner of Fort Smith, Arknasas; one sister: Geneva White of Fort Smith, Arknasas; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; Funeral services were held at the U.S. National Pavillion on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Steve Stewart officiated the service. Pallbearers were his grandsons.
