Eugene Wilhite

Eugene Wilhite was born 8 May 1923 in White Oak Twsp., Sebastian Co., Ar to Dock & Pearl Sheppard Willhite. On June 30, 1942 Eugene registered for the draft at Greenwood, Sebastian Co., Ar.

May 19, 1943 Eugene enlistded in the US Army at Little Rock, Arkansas and was assigned to the 169th Infantry Regiment, 43rd Infantry Division. He states that he attended 2 years of high school and his civil occupation was farm hand, general farms.

In January 1945 Pfc Eugene Wilhite was admitted to the hospital with battle injury diagnosis as "wounds lacerated with no nerve or artery incolvement located in the knee region - popliteal space caused by bullet or missile. All foreign matter and dead tissue was removed without closure." Eugene was discharged in Febuary
1945 to a convalescent hospital.

In March of 1945 Pfc Wilhite was again injured in battle with a bullet or missile to the head. He was not in a medical installation prior to death 14 Mar 1945. Pfc Eugene Wilhite is buried or memorialized at Plot D Row 5 Grave 186, Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines. This is an American Battle Monuments Commission location.
