May 3, 1947 Gaines married 17 year old Ruby Laverne Murchison, both being residents of Fort Smith, Ar. Gaines again married on June 21, 1973 in Panola,Texas to Doris E Averitt. Gaines enlisted in the US Army November 23 1942 with the US Army at Shreveport Louisiana. The branch he served with was the Cavalry. He states he has a grammar school edication He served until December 8, 1945. December 12, 1945 Gaines again registred for the military draft in Fort Smith,, Sebastian Co., Ar. at the Fort Smith court house. While serving he was admitted to the hospital in December 1944. The diagnosis was - First Location: Spine and Trunk: Clavicle; Second Location: Thorax, thoracic wall: Supraclavicular region; Third Diagnosis: Malaria, vivax (tertian); Causative Agent: Bullet, Machine Gun. His discharge date from the hospital was March 1944. Obviously one of the dates is incorrect. Gaines William Woods passed away September 3, 1997 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., ar. and is bried in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
