Walter Stanley Yerton was born 15 Sep 1922 in Massard, Sebastian Co., Arkansas .to Walter Stanley & Bertha E. Bivens Ray Yearton. Sr. Walter graduated from Fort Smith High School. On 18 Mar 1950 Walter, Jr. married Margaret Phillips from Crawford Co., Ar. On May 6, 1969 they divorced.

On June 3, 1942 Walter registered for the draft at Fort Smith, Ar and states he is employed by Williams Oil Co. in Fort Smith. On Sept 8, 1942 Walter enlisted with the US Navy and served as a Seaman 1st Class. S1c Yerton was discharge on 8 Mar 1946.

Walter S. Yerton Jr., 81, of Lavaca, formerly of Fort Smith/Massard, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired materials clerk for OG&E, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Barling Cemetery in Barling. He is survived by his wife, Bettye of the home; a daughter, Laura Adkins and her husband Kris of Little Rock; a son, Stan Yerton and his wife Georgianna of Edmond, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Kelly Yerton and Caleb Yerton both of Edmond.

Pallbearers will be Zeke Burns, Allen Branham, Glen Jones, Tim Mullins, Mitch Neal and Don Bignham. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Dew, Jim Harwood, Curtis Perryman, Ron and Daniel Davis, Maurice Green, Larry Walker, L.D. Jones and Claybourn Freeman.
