Air Force Capt. Karl Edward Worst was born October 29, 1937 to Ferdinand Lewis and Loile Hefley Worst of Fort Smith, Ar. His wife was Patricia Ann Young of Ft. Smith. They had 3 children.

Captain Worst was a member of the 2nd Air Division. On March 2, 1966, he was the pilot of a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (O-1G) on a mission over Nam Xe Nua, Kammouan Province, Laos when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

I attended church with his wife and her family. I remember when he was listed as missing in action before he was listed as KIA. It was a while and was so hard on his family to wait for. They knew what was probably coming but it didn't make it any easier when the final word came. He was the father of three small children...lr
