Billy Joe Carney was born July 2, 1943 in Arkansas to Hugh Edgar & Geneva Girard Carney. October 11, 1963 he married Alice Elaine Moore at Charleston, Franklin Co., Ar.

Billy enlisted in the US Navy January 16, 1967 and served until October 7, 1968 in Iraq. His rank was Po3 or Petty officer 3rd class.

Bill Joe Carney passed away June 19, 2004 His burial was in Oak Valley Cemetery in Lavaca, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Bill J. Carney, 60, of Lavaca died Saturday, June 19, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born July 2, 1943, in Charleston, his father, Hugh E. Carney, his mother Geneva Girard Carney.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam. He was self-employed and in maintenance at Fort Smith Christian School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lavaca and the River Valley Antique Tractor Club.

Funeral was held at 10 a.m. today at Smith Mortuary Chapel with burial at Oak Valley Cemetery south of Lavaca under the diretion of Smith Mortuary of Charleston. Officiating the service was the Rev. Grant Ethridge.

He is survived by his wife, and two sons.
