Physician Had Role in 1890 Anna Case.

The first woman juror in the United States, a former Union County resident, is dead at 88.

Dr. Minnie Sanders Armstrong served on a trial jury in Anna in April 1890. She was the only physician in town and the presence of a doctor on the jury was required.

She later moved to Fort Smith Arkansas, as a young practicing physician. She dies Sunday at her home.

A Native of Union county, Dr. Armstrong was the sister of the late Dr. Karl E. Sanders, a Union County physician. She was the sister-in-law of Mrs. Ella Pickles Sanders, English teacher at Anna Jonesboro Community High School. Dr. Armstrong's father was the late Dr. David R. Sanders, Union County Physician. Dr. Armstrong was the cousin of Mrs. Russell Coilis and Mrs Van Crane, both of Anna. Besides these relatives, she leaves a daughter, Ruth Armstrong, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and sons Henry of Fort Smith and Norris of Danville, Kentucky; and four sisters, Mrs. Clyde Davenport, Wilmington O; Mrs. Ora B. Anderson, Los Angeles, California; Mrs Leland Pratt of Riverside, California; and Mrs Mary Carroll of Hollywood.
