COOK EDNA MRS NORFLEET 2 9 1918 6 21 2010 COGBILL
Edna Norfleet Cook (February 9, 1918 - June 21, 2010) Edna Norfleet Cook of Beaver Lake, formerly of Wynne, died June 21, 2010. Her Sweet Savior welcomed her with the words, "Well done, My good and faithful servant." She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a beloved Christian role model and trusted friend. She was the widow of John Cook. Born in February 9, 1918, to Robert & Annie Norfleet of Tate County, MS., she graduated from Senatobia High School and attended Northwest Miss Jr. College. Except for a brief time in Memphis, where she met and married John, and her twilight years at the Lake, she lived her adult life in Wynne. For decades an original needlepoint created by one of her children, hung above her busy sewing machine. It read, "My Mother can do it!" and depicted the many roles in which "Grander" excelled: sewing, baking, music and even a gavel representing the many community and church organizations she served. The family dining room table was the gathering spot for holidays to enjoy her wonderful cooking (fabulous homemade rolls, coconut cake, chocolate pie), centerpieces with flowers from her yard (peonies a specialty), her quick wit, never failing optimism and good cheer. She was never too busy to transform this same formal dining table into a big tent draped with heirloom quilts and the chairs turned in a magical way to make tunnel entrances for her children, then grand children and even great grands. A gifted artist and writer, she designed special occasion cards and poems for her family. Edna was preceded in death by her husband and seven siblings. Survivors are daughters Lynda Allen of Little Rock and Fran Taylor of Beaver Lake (formerly of Memphis), sons David Cook (Joy) of Germantown, TN, and Ken Cook (Laura) of Little Rock. Her adored grandchildren are Erin (Scott) Schoen, Lane (Michael) Shreeve of Benton, John (Pam) Cook of Germantown, Carla Cook of Memphis, Lex (Gina) Broyles of Fayetteville, Caroline & Sarah Catherine Cook and Andrew Hall of Little Rock. Precious great grandchildren are Katie & Laura Schoen, Morgan Rullmann, Spencer Shreeve, and Huck Broyles. Friends are invited to visitation at Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne from 10:30 - 12 June 23. A private burial will take place in Cogbill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church in Wynne or Eureka Springs, The Barbara Broyles Legacy Foundation (Alzheimers support), 1826 N. Crossover Road PNB #4, Fayetteville, AR 72701, or Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762.

PINKSTON JOHN HUGH WIDENER
Greetings,Find A Grave contributor Shannon has made a suggestion to you regarding your Find A Grave memorial for John Pinkston.Link to memorial: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=17626658Link to contributor profile: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=47261813Email address of contributor: shanskan@hotmail.comTheir suggestion:-------------------------First of all I would like to thank you for the tremendous time and effort you have put into recording the history of the ancestors of St. Francis County. I see your name often as a contributor as I scour the ARGenWeb site and other internet sites trying to find information. Some of the information that you have posted has been invaluable and words alone cannot express my gratitude. I am a direct descendant of Jesse Woods Mahaffey, John M. Widener, and John Marion Roy all of whom had large roles in settling St. Francis County. I would like to add a little more information to this memorial if I may: John Hugh Pinkton is son of Peter W. Pinkston and his wife Susanna. Siblings include Mary Pinkston (b. abt. 1837), and William Turner Pinkston (b. abt. 1839). He married Margaret Roy about 1868 probably in St. Francis County, Arkansas. Together they had the following children: Peter W. Pinkston (b. abt. 1869), Mary Elizabeth Pinkston (b. 11 May 1872 d. 19 Nov 1949), Georgia Ann Pinkston (b.09 Nov 1876 d. 23 Mar 1947), Charles Pinkston (b. Dec. 1881), and Mattie Bell Pinkston (b. Feb. 1885). Sometime prior to 1900 he decided to join a wagon train and go out West with several of his family members. He is found on the 1900 Chehelis County, WA, Elma Twp. Census where he is living with his two youngest children. Also, in the household are his daughter Mary Elizabeth (Pinkston) Mahaffey and her husband Thomas Franklin Mahaffey (son of Jesse Woods Mahaffey) and their children. John Hugh Pinkston either died in Washington and his body was sent back to Arkansas or he came back to St. Francis County and died in 1901. His wife Margaret Roy is first cousin to Mary J. Widener and the Pinkston, Widener's, and Roy families were not only related but were friends.Thank You,Shannon Pope-------------------------

RICH CHARLES ALLEN 12 14 1932 7 25 1995 MEMORIAL PARK-MEMPHIS
Birth: Dec. 14, 1932 Death: Jul. 25, 1995 Singer. Musician. Born near Forrest City, Arkansas. He attended Consolidated High School in Forrest City, where he played saxophone in the high school band. After high school, he attended Arkansas State College on a football scholarship. He then transferred to the University of Arkansas as a music major but left after one semester to join the Air Force. He married his life-long love, fellow jazz enthusiast Margaret Ann in 1952. He supplemented his military responsibilities with piano and saxophone duties in a group called the Velvetones in area night clubs. Charlie lived in rural Arkansas until settling in Memphis during his days at Sun Records. It was at Sun that he first met the man who would make him a star and become a country music legend in his own right, producer Billy Sherrill. After 2 more years at Sun's Nashville and Memphis studios, Charlie bounced around a few studios including RCA, Mercury and Hi. He recorded a greatest hits of Hank Williams package before landing back in Nashville at the Epic division of CBS/Columbia in December 1967. He recorded the soul classics "Big Boss Man," "River Stay Away From My Door," "Why, Oh Why" And "Mohair Sam" for the Groove division of RCA. "Behind Closed Doors" won three awards from the Country Music Association in 1973: Best Male Vocalist, Album of the Year, and Single of the Year. The album was also certified gold and he won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male. He was known as The Silver Fox and practically owned the country charts in the mid 1970s. He had one smash country hit after another, classics like "Most Beautiful Girl In The World," "A Very Special Love Song," "Every Time You Touch Me I Get High," "Peace on You" and "Sunday Kind of Woman." Rich began to drink heavily, causing considerable problems off-stage. His destructive personal behavior famously culminated at the CMA awards ceremony for 1975, when he presented the award for that year's Entertainer of the Year. Instead of reading the name of the winner, who happened to be John Denver, he set fire to the envelope with a cigarette lighter. Many considered it an act of rebellion against the Music Row-controlled Nashville Sound. Others, including industry insiders, were outraged and Rich had trouble having hits throughout 1976. Rich appeared as himself in the 1979 Clint Eastwood movie "Every Which Way But Loose" where he performed the song "I'll Wake You Up When I Get Home." This song hit number three on the charts in 1979 and was his last top ten single. For over a decade, he was silent, living off his investments in semi-retirement and only playing an occasional concert. Charlie had always wanted to record a jazz album, one that would capture his own, genre-bending style. His life-long dream came true in 1992 with "Pictures and Paintings," his final album. He died in Hammond, Louisiana from a blood clot in his lung.
