GADBERRY CARROLL EUGENE SR. 6 15 1932 9 23 2000 HUGHES NATIVE USARMY/USAF-KOREA Mr. Carroll Eugene Gadberry, Sr., age 68, of Lake Havasu City Ariz., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at his home. Mr. Gadberry was born June 15, 1932, in Forrest City to Emmitt and Lucille Gadberry. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the U.S. Army for 14 years, and the U.S. Air Force for four years. Mr. Gadberry was a retired U.S. Postal employee. He was a Baptist, a Mason, and a member of the VFW. Mr. Gadberry is survived by two sons; Carroll Gadberry Jr., of Forrest City, Allen Gadberry of Griffith, Ind.; three daughters; Kristy Kiser of Logan, Ohio, Pam Cencion, of Wheatfield Ind., Anita Sills of Val Poraiso, Ind., one brother; Ralph Gadberry, of Forrest City; a sister, Carrie Reyer, of Forrest City; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death in 1992 by a grandson, Nicholas Cencion and in 1999 by a brother Thomas Gadberry. MEMORIALs for Mr. Gadberry will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at 2 p.m. in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. | GADBERRY LUCY MRS. 11 5 1881 10 6 1908 HUGHES | IN MEMORIAM=The Angel of Death has visited another home and plucked one of its sweetest flowers, when it called home Mrs.Lucy Gadberry, who was born Nov.5,1881, and was married to J.T.Gadberry May 6,1899, and professed religion and joined the Baptist church Aug.18,1907, her membership being held at Colt. She lived happily until Oct.6,1908, when God saw fit to call her home. She leaves a husband and three children, father and mother, three brothers and a sister to mourn her loss. 11-6-1908 | GADBERRY RALPH FRANKLIN 2 2 1926 4 14 2007 FPARK NATIVE USARMY NATIONAL GUARD | Mr. Ralph Franklin Gadberry, age 81, of Forrest City, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Gadberry was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Forrest City, the son of Emmit Gadberry and Lucille Shands Gadberry. He was a retired butcher and was currently employed with Express Cleaners. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and an active member of First Baptist Church in Forrest City where he served as an usher for more than 50 years. Mr. Gadberry married Virginia Black Gadberry in 1947 and she survives him along with two daughters, Linda Miller of Pine Tree and Ann Harbin of Forrest City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Gadberry, Alfred Gadberry and Carrol Gadberry. Visitation for Mr. Gadberry will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Forrest City with Bro. Alan Smith and Andy Price officiating. Mr. Garrett was born June 15, 1935, in Mississippi County. He was the fire chief of the Haynes Fire Department for many years after retiring from Yale after 35 years of service. He was also the manager of maintenance for the City of Haynes and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Garrett was a member of the Spring Grove M.B. Church in Haynes where he served on the usher board, sang in the male chorus and was president for over 20 years. Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alberta Garrett; a daughter, Cynthia Lewellen; a son, Michael Garrett; two brothers, Willie Garrett of Chicago, Ill. and John Garrett of Detroit, Mich.; one sister Edna Jean Brown of Detroit, Mich.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Hughes officiating. | GESSING OTTO 1855 4 9 1911 GERMANY | DEATH=DEATH OF OTTO GESSING=St.Francis county loses another honored and respected citizen. The sudden and unexpected taking away on Sunday night, Apr.9,1911, of Mr.Otto Gessing at his home Lakeside, about twelve miles below Madison on the St.Francis river, removed another landmark of that section, and a man who was widely known and universally loved and esteemed. Mr.Gessing had not been ill at all, he complained of being tired when he went to bed Saturday night, and asked at his store to not be disturbed, during the day Sunday. When the family went to his bedside, they found him unconscious, having suffered an attack of heart failure, and was unable to regain consciousness before his death. Mr.Gessing was in his 56th year, and was a native of Obernhan, Saxony, Germany, where he has a brother, Attorney Carl Gessing, and a sister, whose name we were not able to obtain. These and some nephews and nieces living in Colorado are the only known relatives. He came to this country about twenty five years ago, and settled in Madison, where until four years ago he was employed with Mr.Ed Berry, when he entered into a partnership with Mr.H.W.Robinson in the mercantile business in Lakeside. Mr.A.L.Stevens went down Monday to prepare the body, and brought it to Madison, where on Wednesday morning services were held under the auspices of Memphis Lodge No.26, B.P.O.E., of which he was a member, at the Methodist church. He was the 6th child and 2nd boy of 8 children. The family moved to Cotton Plant in Woodruff County, AR when he was a young boy. Doyle dropped out of school in the 7th grade. He was a math whiz!..He married Elizabeth Gray in 1938 in Wynne, AR. They had 5 daughters, Donna, Dianne, Anita Sue (Susie), Christy, and Gena. He served in WWII on Tinian as an orderly in the Hospital. He saw the Inola Gay, while it was hidden there before take-off to Hiroshima. A supply plane took him and several other guys from the base and flew them over Hiroshimo to view the devastation. He worked in construction for a while after his return to the states. He later worked with Gross Laundry and Cleaners and then Moody's Cleaners as a pickup/delivery man. He did this for about 30 years. He loved baseball and football. Doyle died in his sleep after a long bout with what the doctors diagnosed as scholeraderma. | GIBBS T. M. 1884 6 26 1909 FCTIMES | T.M.GIBBS KILLED BY TRAIN=T.M.Gibbs who was making his way from Little Rock to Memphis went to sleep on drawhead Saturday morning, June 26,1909, a short distance west of the city, falling between the cars while the train was in motion, with result that both legs were crushed off near the body. The accident happened in front of the residence of Mr.& Mrs.M.R.McCrary, and one of the McCrary children saw the man fall from the train about 6 o'clock am. The McCrary family did what they could for the man, and he was brought to the office of Dr.Rush in this city, where he died about 10:30 o'clock. He was a native of Kentucky, but had been employed in the sanitary department at Hot Springs. He was about 25 years of age, and claimed to be on his way to visit his mother in Kentucky. Stevens Bros. prepared the body for burial, which was done in the Forrest City cemetery Sunday. He was tied to the chair with a towel, and had apparently been choked to death. She had been said to be friendly with another man, and it is supposed that he did the deed. He had also been stabed in the abdomen and scrotum area by a long blade knife, found next to the chair.
