KANE W. H. UNK 3 14 1911 UNKNOWN 3-17-1911 DEATH=News reached the city Wednesday morning, of the death of Mr.W.H.Kane in Little Rock on Tuesday, Mar.14,1911, who for a long time was the fireman on the Rock Island switch engine here. Mr.Kane has a host of friends here, was highly esteemed, and quite popular. The news of his sudden death came as a distinct shock and is universally regretted. | KAUFFMAN GEORGE E. 1864 7 9 1936 SALEM | George E. KAUFFMAN, well known and substantial planter of Salem died at his home about twenty miles northwest of Marianna late Thursday evening, July 9. Mr. Kauffman had been ill with stomach trouble for two weeks. His sister, Mrs. Larn Stevens and brother, J.A. Kauffman of Bluffton, Ohio were with him at the time of his death. Mr. Kauffman was single and seventy two years of age. He owned and operated his farm near Goodwin, Ark. for 15 years. He is survived only by his brother and sister. Services were held at the residence at two o'clock Friday afternoon by Rev. J.A. Grider, Baptist minister of Forrest City. Burial was in the Salem cemetery with Williams-Wakefield funeral directors in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were: Mr. Adams, F. French, C. Sartain, R.E. Bullard, C.E. Turpin, G.W. HOWELL 4 3 1931 6 25 2004 FOREST HILLS | Mrs. Gladys Marie Howell Kay, age 73, of Little Rock and formerly of Malvern, died on Friday, June 25, 2004.Mrs. Kay, born April 3, 1931, was the daughter of Fred and Myrtle Howell. She was a businesswoman in the Little Rock area for the past 39 years working with Block Mortgage Company prior to opening her own business, Capitol Title Co., Inc., in 1976. She was a member of Reyburn Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Rose.Mrs. Kay is survived by a son, Daniel "Danny" Kay; a daughter, Neona M. Treadway; two brothers, Homer Howell and Horace Howell; a sister, Joy Fay Ogden; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas B. Kay and a son, David L. Kay.Funeral services for Mrs. Kay were held on Monday, June 28, 2004, Griffin-Leggett Forest Hills in Alexander with Pastor Todd Bray officiating assisted by Bill House. BUSBY 2 3 1915 7 25 2006 FPARK | Mrs. Ruby Busby Kay passed away to join our Lord Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at 1:30 a.m. She was 91 years of age. Mrs. Kay was born in Batesville, Mississippi on February 3, 1915, to Tom and Ada Murphree Busby. She moved with her family to Caldwell, Arkansas at the age of two (2) and spent the remainder of her life in and around St. Francis County. She married Woodrow Kay in March of 1939 and they had two children. After sixty years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Kay was an exceptional homemaker and cook. She loved having company and insisted everyone who came to her house had to eat. Her home-made doughnuts and rolls were quite memorable. Her family was most important to her. Mrs. Kay was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Forrest City and a faithful Christian. She loved her Lord and the church and attended regularly until illness kept her at home. She went to work at Rel-Toc Manufacturing Company in 1955 where she worked for 27 years and retired in 1982. She enjoyed her work and the many friends she made during this time. Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, Clarence, Bruce, Jim, and Dewitt Busby; and three sisters, Ms. Ida Lindsey. Mrs. Mary Ellis, and Mrs. Lorene Thomas.She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay Jones and husband Paul of Russellville; and a son, Laney (Sonny) Kay and his wife, Christy of Forrest City. Also four grandchildren, Barbara Weddle Cole of Little Rock, Gary Wayne Jones of Russellville, Lori Ann Tanner of Russellville, and Aubrey Pierce of Cordova, Tenn. Mrs. Kay had ten (10) great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held Thursday, July 27 from 6 to 8 p.m at Stevens Funeral Home and the funeral will be held Friday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Park Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Mrs. Kay's nephews. Officiating will be Brother Alan Payne of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Brother J.E. Mr. Keeling was born March 19, 1943, in Marianna, the son of the late Ferd Elden and Vera Tennessee Logan Keeling. He was a retired truck driver and a West Helena firefighter. Mr. Keeling is survived by his wife, DeShea Keeling of Palestine; two daughters, Lisa Thomas of Oilton, Okla. and Patty Bilbrey of Lynn; two sons, Jason Keeling of Russellville and Jamie Keeling of Atkins; two step-children, William Colvin and Tonya Colvin, both of Palestine; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She married Frank Preston Todd in 1922 and they moved to Haynes in 1927. Mr. Keith was born Feb. 15, 1950, the son of Fert Keith Sr. and the late Rachel Keith in Eudora. He had been a resident of Forrest City for the past six years. Mr. Keith was employed with General Motors Corporation for 30 years and retired in 1998. He was an active member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 659. She was a member of the Fifty Six Missionary Baptist Church and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She worked over 20 years at the Blanchard Shirt Factory Factory and many other hard physical jobs during her life. Virgie loved to sew, quilt, grow a beautiful garden and can food for friends and family.Virgie is survived by son, Joe Keller of Fifty Six, two daughters, Earnestine McDaniel and husband Ross of Fifty Six and Snoda Jason and husband Danny of Mtn. Born in FORREST CITY, he was a graduate of Weiner High School and received a bachelor's degree from then-Arkansas State College in 1966 and a master's degree in 1970. He was a high school science teacher in Jonesboro and Steele, Mo. He had lived in Melbourne, Australia, before moving to Carson City 28 years ago. He was a teacher, school administrator and principal of Pioneer High School, was the Citizen Outreach director, chairman of Joint Services Council and a board member of the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. A recipient of an international teaching fellowship from the Victoria Department of Education in Australia, he traveled oversees several summers as a group leader for the People to People Youth Ambassador program. He was a member of the Ormsby County Educators Association, a life member of the Kiwanis, having been named Kiwanian of the Year twice, served on the Nevada Day committee and was a member and elder at First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Sue Adams Keller of Carson City; a daughter, Megan Keller of Carson City; and two brothers, Al Keller of Memphis and Danny Keller of De Soto, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Alvin and Mary Evelyn Starr Keller. A MEMORIAL is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson High School gymnasium. | KELLEY GEORGIA MRS. SWAN 2 13 1928 7 4 2005 ATHENS CEMETERY NATIVE-FCHS 1946 | Mrs. Georgia Swan Kelley, age 77, of Athens, W.Va., died Monday, July 4, 2005, at Princeton Community Hospital.Mrs. Kelley was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Forrest City, the daughter of John Bozeman and Leta Littlefield Swan. She was a 1946 graduate of Forrest City High School and she earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and social sciences from Arkansas Tech University in 1950 and her masters degree in education from the University of Arkansas in 1960. Mrs. Kelley taught and coached girls basketball at Star City High School and at Bald Knob High School. She also taught one year at Independence Community College in Kansas before going to Concord College in 1960. During her 33 year career at Concord College, she founded and coached the women's basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis, track, field hockey and swimming teams. Her awards included the 1971 Concord Woman of the Year. In 1993 she was honored as the first woman to win the Mike McLaughlin Award and in 1997 she was the first woman inducted in to the Concord College Hall of Fame in 1997. She was also honored several times as the coach of the year and was the recipient of the Linda Fink Award in 2002.Mrs. Kelley is survived by two sons, James H. Kelley III of Athens, W.Va. and Larry Horton of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; two daughters, Gail Russell and Gloria Bell both of Memphis; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends. UNK 8 9 1907 UNKNOWN | 8-16-1907 BRAKEMAN KILLED=John P.Kelley, of Local Freight Crew loses life While Engine is attempting to catch runaway car. On last Friday evening, Aug.9,1907, while switching in front of the Times office, a coal car was set off on the main line, and started down toward the depot. A brakeman was riding the car and set the brake, but it soon became evident that either the brake was in bad order, or the brakeman was unable to set it up sufficiently tight to hold the car, and it momentarily gained speed. While John Kelley was working with other cars, he noticed the runaway and told the engineer to move the train to attempt to stop the car, and when he caught the car, the jolt caused Kelley to be crushed between the cars, and instantly died. Kelley was unmarried, and lived in Memphis. The body was embalmed at Stevens Bros., and then shipped to Little Rock per the railway instrucitons. | KELLEY JOSEPH MRS. The burial will follow at Forrest park Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home. | KELLY JOSEPH UNCLE unk 9 21 1900 FCTIMES | Death of Uncle Joe Kelly-Uncle Joseph Kelly of Pine Tree, who was reported dangerously ill last week, died Friday morning, Sep.21,1900, at the Eppes Hotel, of hematuria. He came here to serveas a member of the grand jury, but became too ill to enter upon those duties. He grew worse rapidly and medical attention failed to bring about a change for the better. The remains were taken to his home, and interred in the neighborhood burying grounds. He is a resident of about a decade, and has always taken a lively interest in the affairs of his country and in politics, and was a man of courage and conviction. Mr. Kelso was born April 2, 1936, in St. Francis County, the son of Floyd Monroe Kelso and Jenny Florence Melton Kelso. He lived in St. Francis County most of his life. Mr. Kelso is survived by five sisters, Nettie Bateman and Ruby Nichols both of Forrest City and Ruth Barnes of Belvidere, Ill., Peggy Godair of Horn Lake, Miss. and Carolyn Ramsey of Lexa and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Kennedy was the son of Huey Wilburn Kennedy and Zula Mae Milner Kennedy and was retired from the Forrest City Police Department. He is survived by his wife, Nita Kennedy of Colt; a daughter, LuAnne Kennedy Colvin of Campbellsville, Ky.; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Kennedy Sr. of Forrest City, and Alfred Kennedy of Colt; five sisters, Frances Riddell of Wynne, Mary Carter of McCrory, Peggy Gray and Lucille Baker and Barclay Lackey, all of Forrest City; two brothers, L.W. "Dub" Kennedy and Dewayne Kennedy, both of Forrest City; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
