Located off HiBank Road, which runs South off of Hwy.82 between El Dorado &

Strong, Union County, Arkansas. This is a lovely little cemetery and well maintained.

*Donald lost his mother at age 2, & his father at age 14. He had to begin

working at a movie theater as a projector operator to help support his younger sister.

*He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1958, serving proudly. After his

discharge, he returned to his hometown & began working for the Rock Island

Railroad. In the early 60's, he moved to Crossett & began a long career

with Ashley Drew & Northern Railway Co., where he worked as an engineer,

trainmaster, & eventually the Operational Superintendent. He remained there

until AD & N closed in June of 1996. & was the last one to lock the depot door

*A son, Gary Don Smith preceded him in death.

*Sister, Marketa Smith Thurlkill (1936-2016)

*Member of Beech Street Baptist Church. .

*Survived by his loving wife, Glenda Ware Smith of Crossett. Survived by,

one son & three daughters.

*Graduated University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science Degree when he reitred

from the Army in May 1989. After retirement, he returned to his home in

Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked as a computer programmer& as an

insurance agent. Graduated Webster University with a Master of Arts in 2005, MBA in 2008.

His last contribution to the world was working as a Science teacher in a South

Arkansas high school. *His hobbies were woodworking, writing articles & short

stories, photography & traveling in his motor home. Member of First Baptist

Church of ElDorado – Rotary Club Civitan Club, American Legion Post 10,

VFW Post 2413, & several other organizations.

*Preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Thanh Thi Strickland; a brother,

Donald Strickland & Nephew Mark Strickland of Crescent City, FL. Survived by

his wife of 12 years, Elaine Welch Strickland of El Dorado. Buried with full

military honors at Craig Cemetery.
