Cemetery Menu
Est. ca 1863
Located along
Hwy. 275 south of Strong, Arkansas, in Union County,
Arkansas, about
one mile from the Louisiana State line. There is frequent
confusion about
this cemetery/church and it's location, especially, by old timers.
Many of the old
timers who were born & or resided in the community of
Oakland, Union
Parish, Louisiana, believed that this cemetery was located
in Union
Parish, Louisiana.
Looking at old topographical maps and road maps, it is very clear that
the cemetery
was about 7-8 miles south of the community of Strong and
about 1 mile north of
the Arkansas / Louisiana State lines.
The community of Oakland is
approximately 1-2 miles south of the state lines.
I have
personally been to this cemetery several times & no where do
you see a Louisiana state line sign. One of these days, maybe I
will drive on
down to Oakland to just check the mileage from
the church to
Oakland. No doubt, it may have been
thought
to be in
Louisiana at one time, before more accurate surveys
& mapping
was done for establishing state boundaries.
