*Troy had no known survivors & was cremated.  After living in several foster homes,

*Troy was admitted to the state mental hospital at the age of  7.  At the age of 17, he was

transferred to a local nursing home where he lived the rest of his life.

*Troy was a loving, friendly person who loved everyone and loved to go to church.  In his

younger years, he was very helpful around the nursing home.  The nursing home employees were

the only family that he ever knew.  A Lengthy front-page article in the March 27, 2009 , issue of

the El Dorado News-Times provided details about Troy's life and the circumstances leading to

his burial at Smackover.  His ashes were interred in the plot of J.D. Reed, who was not related

to Troy, but whose widow & daughter had befriended Troy when they both worked in the nursing

home where he lived. *Inscription on his small headstone: "Blessed Are The Pure In Heart"

*Played collegiate football in the U.S. Naval Academy & later the University of

Arkansas. While with the Razorbacks, he set a then school rushing record of

1,463 yares & achived All-American honors in 1948.

*Earned a Silver Medal on the U.S. Men's Olympic Track & Field team in the

110 Meter Hurdles during the 1948 Summer Games in London.  Many more

winnings & accomplishments thru the years.1948 picked during the 1948 NFL

Draft; experienced a world championship with the Eagles Team  which captured

the NFL Title in 1949, while playing the halfback& defensive back positions.  In

1952, he contributed to a second world championship with the Detroit Lions.

Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1971.  Member of the

University of Arkansas and the State of Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.  His

uniform number 12 has been retired by the University of Arkansas.

in 1954 with Monsanto Chemical Company.  After 38 yrs with Monsanto, he retired

 in 1985. *Served in the U.S. Marines Corp from 1952-1954. Upon moving to Luling,

Woody & his wife discovered there was no "Church of Christ" in the area.

Eventually they along with the Watt's family and the Brown family, established

a congregation which held services in the Watt's family home, then a tent.

Eventually, they purchased land & built the new Luling Church of Christ

building where the congregations still meets today.  Woody was the

primary carpenter who built the new church.

Arkansas began keeping birth & death records in 1914, however it was not enforced until the

mid 1940's.  Whether you will find someone on this list or not, depends on whether they the

family, the mortician or the doctor bothered to turn in the info to the state. 

If someone died during this period, 1914-1950, and you cannot find them listed,

this means there will be no death certificate on record either.  There are 4 volumes of the

Arkansas Death Index copy can be found thru out the state in libraries & genealogical societies.
