BURKE/OGDEN
I recently came across information stating that William Burke, son of James Burke and Martha Ogden was born in Union County, Arkansas on Jan 14, 1836. In 1845 the whole family moved to Texas, but this same source stated that James Burke and his family had come from Kentucky to Arkansas when James was young. James was a veteran of War of 1812 and received a land grant in Arkansas referencing his participation in War of 1812. I also found a Benjamin Burke who married Susannah Ogden. Susannah was married previously to a Seth/Samuel Burke. I believe these people are all related and am VERY interested in any information about either family especially any siblings of James Burke. BLANKS/BREAZEAL/OGDEN
Interested in records of Ezekiel Blanks (1805-1864) and wife Temperence Riley Devincy Blanks (1802-1894) who settled about 1842 near Olive Branch Methodist Church, southwest of Hillsboro, Union County. Both were from Greene Co GA, were they were married in 1831, but they had lived in Perry Co AL for a short time before moving on to Union Co. They had numerous daughters, all of whom died young and unmarried except for Elizabeth J. Blanks, who married Isaac Nathaniel Ogden in 1851 and Mary Ann Blanks, who married Reuben S. Breazeal in 1866. Temperence must have also been married to a Mr. Robins, for she was the mother of Seborn Robins (1827-1894), but I have no record of his father. DRISKILL/YOUNG
Do you know of any enumeration of the Old Champagnolle Cemetery in Union County? The old cemetery was on the bank of the Ouchita River, and was flooded in about 1880. The new cemetery was started 'up the bank' from the old one, and still exists. I also found mention of Lucy Wingfield, wife of General John A. YOUNG, who had written the records that later were the source of the Dalton-Cowles family tree (1896) in Iredell Co NC. Is she one of yours? Are you familiar with these records (a family bible, I believe). Still looking for my Obadiah Driskill/Nancy Young family in Union County AR. Keep me posted! Ed Driskill,

TATUM/SMITH
My understanding is that William Vardeman Tatum and his wife Martha moved to Union Co. Ark from Autauga Co. Ala sometime around 1845. The Arkansas Gazette apparently published a section on 7/4/1937 with a description of a 10-mile stretch south of El Dorado known as the Smith and Tatum plantations.

William V. Tatum's son Thomas Chamion Tatum married Susan Salina Smith, daughter of D.M. Smith who apparently owned the Smith plantation and possibly land in Columbia County as well. Any details you might be able to find on either family would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much in advance, Ed Tatum

LAWRENCE/ROBINSON
Howdy! I am looking for the ancestors of James LAWRENCE. He was born in New York about 1795. By the 1820s he was living in Sumter County, Alabama, where my ggg-grandmother, Julia Ann LAWRENCE, was born. By 1860, James Lawrence was living in El Dorado, Union County Arkansas, and reportedly was involved in building the road from El Dorado to Magnolia.

Census data from his family and Julia Ann LAWRENCE ROBINSON's family clearly indicate that he was born in New York. Family tradition (probably coming from Joseph Marion ROBINSON, my gg-grandfather and James LAWRENCEs grandson, who lived with James LAWRENCE in 1880 when the Census was taken) states that James LAWRENCEs ancestors were from Long Island, where they were involved in the hat-making trade.

Is there anyone who can help me connect James LAWRENCE with a LAWRENCE family on either Long Island or in New York City? Here is more information on the descendants of James LAWRENCE:

Generation No. 1

1. JAMES^1 LAWRENCE was born ABT 1795 in NY, and died Aft 1880 in El Dorado,Union, AR. He married (2) RHODA 30 Mar 1837 in Sumter County, AL. Children of James LAWRENCE are:

ii. WILLIAM T. LAWRENCE, b. ABT 1835, AL; d. Unknown.

Children of James LAWRENCE and Rhoda are:

JOHNSON
After years of searching for my gggrandfather Alfred W. JOHNSON, I finally found him today in Union Co. (I think). Please help me prove it if you can. Alfred was born in Tn., married and had children: Joseph Addison, Edward P., Virginia in Al. The 1850 Union Co. census shows a daughter less than one year old that could be my Alabama, but it is hard to read so I cannot be sure. She would be the right age. My ggrandfather wasn't born until 1861, so he wouldn't be on that census, and I couldn't find any of them on the 1860 census. In 1870 Alabama and My Robert Alexander were on the Anderson Co., Tx. census. I need help to tie the loose ends and flesh out these people. Anyone have any info on any of them? If so I would really!!! love to hear from you. Thanks for your time.

MARRS
I need information on a Robert James Marrs, he lived in the Union-Bradley Co. area in 1850- ? I need to know if he died or is burried there. My Great Grandfather was ROBERT JAMES MARRS,MARR, MARS.I do not know who his parents were or if this man is "my" ancestor. My grand father lived in Mo. for a time just prior to the civil war and then moved to Kansas, but there are a lot of simularities in him and the ROBERT J. in the Bradley Co. 1850 census. Anyone having information on R.J. Marrs will be greatly appreciated.

HOLCOMB
Are there any mortality lists from 1840-1850? My 2 great grandfather, William Holcomb, is on the 1840 census in Lafayette Township, Union County. On the 1850 census, only his widow, Elizabeth Ann Driskill Holcomb, is so-named. Also, they evidently lived in the SE corner of Union County, which by 1850 had become Ouachita County.

Elizabeth Holcomb, in 1850 is still in Lafayette Township, only now in Ouachita County. Her tombstone is still standing in the Old Union Cemetery, about six miles south of Camden. Thank you.

BENTON/JOHNSON/GODLEY
I am researching the Archibald Benton family who were in Union County from late 1840's/early 1850's until mid 1860's. Archibald and wife Amelia both died in August, 1860 -- thankfully after the census was taken but within a few weeks therafter. I have obtained copies of many of his estate papers. They are voluminous and quite interesting. I think he lived in the Lapile area, but have found nothing in any county history or cemetey books. He had 5 daughters: Sarah who married Joseph Johnson in 1860; Mary who died in 1863; Martha Alice who married J. L. Godley probably after moving to Texas but maybe in Union County. I now think another sister, Georgiann, may have married J. L. Godley or another Godley, possibly in Union County. She may have died there also. If you can check on the marriages of Georgiann and Martha Alice I would appreciate it very much. If I can do any lookups for you in McLennan County, Texas feel free to ask. From looking at this man's estate he was quite an entrepeneur, slaves, lots of land, and also I think he must have had a general store -- but I can find nothing in any written history. Are there any newspapers for the area for that period that are still available? Thank you for your help.

William CHANDLER converted both buildings into one hotel with 22 rooms, all of which were nicely furnished. BEATY/BEATIE
I am searhcing for the Thomas BEATY/BEATIE family of Union Co., Arkansas. The family appears in the 1850 census in the Johnson Township. Thomas (b. abt 1807 in South Carolina) had a wife named Aly? (b. abt 1811 in S.C.). They had at least twelve children: William W., Joseph K., Polly A., Sarah, Caroline, Deborah Vashti, Susan, Charlotte Telitha, Thomas J., Roxanna, Julia, and Lucinda. Near this family in the census are other families named BEATY/BEATIE which I believe are related. They are Thomas and Sarah both born about 1780 in S.C., Luelan? born about 1820 in S.C. and Larkin born about 1821 in S.C. Thomas and Aly and their children left Union Co., about 1854 and went to Van Zandt Co., Texas. I think some of the other BEATY/BEATIE people may have stayed in the Union Co. area. In particular I am looking to find out where in S.C. this family came from (current guess is from Abbeville, S.C.) and whether these people were of Cherokee descent. If you know anything about this family I would appreciate hearing from you.

Also please Look-Up my other Great Grandparents James W. LUM and Matilda (CATER/DUNBAR) LUM. Matilda died 22 April 1894. I do not know where any of them are buried. Their graves may not be marked. WINGFIELD/JONES
I am researching the Wingfield family in Union County (and perhaps Columbia County), Ark., for my sister-in-law. Specifically, I am looking for info on Rev. W.F. Wingfield (born Aug. 16, 1841, died Feb. 22, 1927) and his wife Margrett L. Wingfield (b. Jan. 13, 1842, d. July 6, 1928). They had a son William D. Wingfield (Nov. 2, 1880 to Nov. 19, 1955) who married Dora Jones (Dec. 31, 1880 to Nov. 23, 1938). Are you familiar with any of these Wingfields. The younger William lived in or near El Dorado, I believe. Thanks for any help you can give.

McCOY/AARON
Looking for any information about McCOY or AARON families who may have been living near Felsenthal around 1900. J B McCoy and wife Mary had a daughter Willie Mae, b 5 Sep 1905 in Felsenthal. Willie Mae was a step-sister to my g-grandmother, Minnie Ola Aaron Sawyer. So, Mary McCoy may have been previously married to a "Babe" Aaron. Aaron may have been spelled Aron, Arons, Aarons.

LEOPARD/DAVIS/PARKER
HELLO EL DORADO - UNION CO. My wife's mother is the daughter of W.W. Leopard and Ina Vivian Davis; whom lived in Union Co. when she (wife's mother) was born in 1921, W.W. Leopard died that same year (1921) when the child was only a few months old. Inv Vivian Davis Leapord then sometime later married Charlie Parker and the family lived in Calion. Would like to correspond with anyone whom might have any knowledge of W.W.Leopard. If lookup is possible - there should have been some probate papers or a will - in 1921 or possibly in 1922. Would like to have a chance to check on these proceedings. They of course would be in Union County... Thank you for your time, Gary and Delorise in Ok.
