1882 County Election
August 17, 1882
For County and Probate Judge
We are authorized to announce Judge Geo. W. Halbrook a candidate for the office of County and Probate Judge of Van Buren County, at the ensuing September election.
We are authorized to announce R. R. Poe a candidate for re-election to the office of Sheriff of Van Buren County, at the ensuing September election.
To the Voters of Van Buren County: Fellow Citizens-Two years ago, unsolicited, I was a candidate before you as sheriff of your county. Now at the solicitation of many friends all over the county, I am again before you asking your support for the office of sheriff. I think I know the duties of the office to which I aspire, and feel that I have the qualifications to discharge them. I have been a citizen of your county for thirty-six years; I am fully identified with your every interest, indeed, your interest is my interest. Being a farmer, it will be impossible for me to visit you all until crop time is over. I thank you kindly for the generous support you gave me in the last election. Now, fellow citizens, my claims are before you, subject to your decision at the ballot box, on the fourth of September next. I am,
Very respectfully yours,
We are authorized to announce D. H. Lay a candidate for the office of Sheriff of Van Buren County, at the approaching September election.
