GREEN VALLEY - Lloyd A. Turney, 82, of 13004 Townline Road passed away at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, June 24, 2007, at his residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Higden, Ark., to Robert A. and Amanda (Linn) Turney, he married Hester Elizabeth Johnson on July 27, 1946, in Heber Springs, Ark. She died Sept. 29, 2006, in rural Green Valley.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Anna (Marvin) Palm of Pekin and Beth Turney of Bloomington; one son, James (Linda) Turney of Green Valley; four grandchildren, Amanda Turney of Green Valley, Michelle Palm of Pekin, Christopher (Teresa) Palm of Crestview, Fla., and Laura (Alan) Hunt of Scott Air Force Base; one great-grandson, Zachary Bussan of Scott Air Force Base; one sister, Anna Mae McCarty of New Buffalo, Mich.; and his twin brother, Floyd (Esther) Turney of St. Joe, Mich.
Lloyd was a World War II Army veteran and served with his twin brother in the Pacific Theater. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
He worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 31 years, retiring in 1981 as a repairman in Building LL in East Peoria. Following retirement, Lloyd farmed in Cincinnati Township.
He was a devoted and faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin for more than 50 years. He also was a life member of Roy L. King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1232 in Pekin.
Lloyd loved to fish and was a beekeeper for many years.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Tim Najpaver will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Sand Prairie Cemetery in rural Green Valley, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
