Jesse Bloodworth Grave

Contributed by Linda Maxey Prater

This grave is on the land now owned by Charley Tankersley just outside Shirley as you go up the mountain past Shirley school towards Stone County. The story is that he helped bury a child in poor land when it was raining and the grave filled with water. He did not want that to happen to him so he picked a high spot on his land. This is a hand poured marker. The lady standing next to it is 6' 1". Jesse was the first husband of E Mary Elizabeth Tankersley Bloodworth Eaton Berry. He died August 05, 1905. Think the old Bloodworth Township was named after this family.
