My great great grandfather Allen Fields Hammett and gr gr grandmother Gillian Angelina Traywick came to Van Buren County Ark after 1852 and settled in the Griggs area, Both were b in Tenn and left where they had been raised in Carroll County Tennessee, They raised their children and are both buried in Van Buren County Ark, Gillian d in 1882 . Allen married twice again after that, He was a farmer, a blacksmith, a preacher, and had a grist mill and belonged to the Masonic Lodge. I have a great deal of information that I can share, Allen also served in the Civil War and I have that information, Gillian is buried on the Hunter Farm and Allen is buried in the Cupepper Cemetery and he died Mar 10 1917. He and his brother were orphaned but their father was Nathaniel Hammett and mother Mary Polly Miller and they were m in Warren Co Ky in 1799. Nathaniel was the son of James Hammett and Hannah Dodd from SC and had moved there early in their marriage from Va.

My gr gr grandfather John Robert Hammett and gr gr grandmother Mary Hammett were both born in Ga and grew up in Ala, they married in Talledga Ala in 1843 and moved to Independence Co Ark, in 1845. He was also a farmer and a preacher. He and Mary moved to White County and then onto Van Buren County and were there during the Civil War, Their oldest son James Houston Hammett served in the Calvary and John Robert also served and not long after my gr grandmother was b in 1861 and during the war Mary was killed by Mauraders. Later John Robert married again, and had more children and he d in 1873. They lived near Peter Creek. I have a great deal of information on the family and their ancestors on all of these lines. Mary is buried in the Huey Cemetery my grandfather told me on the side of a mountain? Her grave may be unmarked, I do want to share the information that I have gathered with others and I know that there are still descendants in Van Buren Co Ark.
