Notes for PAUL LEROY (OSBORN) GARRETT:
Notes for PAUL LEROY GARRETT:
Paul LeRoy (Osborn) Garrett was born to Paul Osborn and Edna Davenport on August 09, 1925 in WaKeeney, Trego County, Kansas. Paul Osborn and Edna Florence Davenport were not married at the time of his birth.

Paul LeRoy was taken by Edna's sister, Bertha (Davenport) and her husband, Edward Daniel Garrett to care for until the time Edna was married. Paul was married to Goldie Davenport at the time of Paul LeRoy's birth. Goldie was another sister of Edna's. When Paul found out he had a son, he went back to Kansas. Paul Osborn and Edna Davenport were married in 1927. After the marriage, Edna asked for her son to be returned and the Garretts refused. So my father, Paul LeRoy was raised as a Garrett, but was never legally adopted by the Garretts.

Paul LeRoy married Martha Belle (Suggs) Britton on January 19, 1946 in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada. To this marriage four children were born.

Paul LeRoy and Martha Belle (Suggs) (Britton) Garrett lost their eldest son, Paul Randolph to cancer on January 13, 1995. From there, they both seemed to go downhill in their health. As all parents feel, Paul LeRoy stated that a parent is supposed to go before their children.

Paul LeRoy lost his wife, Martha on July 15, 1996 due to heart failure. He moved to Lincoln, Placer County, California with his youngest daughter, Wynona Gayle (Garrett) Maxey. He lived with her and her husband, James V. Maxey for approximately three (3) week until his death on August 31, 1996 in Roseville, Placer County, California. Paul LeRoy and his wife, Martha Belle died within forty-seven days of each other.

(Source: Wynona Gayle (Garrett) Maxey)

Paul LeRoy enlisted into the Merchant Marines on August 11, 1943. While stationed in Richmond, California, he met Martha Belle (Suggs) Britton while she was working at a soda fountain. When he saw her, he told his buddy that she was the girl he was going to marry. In 1946, he married Martha Belle (Suggs) Britton, daughter of Charles McKinley and Eula Lee (Holley) Suggs, in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada.

Paul LeRoy worked for PG&E as a lineman and worked installing the Hi-line (known as Goat Head Towers) up and down the state of California. He also at one time worked on the power plants up and down Highway 70 or as known as the "Feather River Canyon". He then worked for Sunset Moulding Mill in Live Oak, California for somewhere around 20+ years. He was hurt on the job when stacks of lumber fell on top of him and two other men. They said he was completely buried with the exception of his face and his chin was on a stack of wood about 5 or 6 inches off the ground. Where he was buried, the rescue people didn't know he was there and was throwing lumber off the other men on top of him. After he was able to return to work, he worked there for a few more years and left. The last job he held was for a crop dusting company owned by Thomas Bowles of Live Oak called "Bowles Flying Service" as a mechanic.

Paul enjoyed fishing, camping, panning and dredging for gold. He spent as much time with his family as possible. But a lot of the jobs he had, kept him away from the family during the week.

At one time, he even raced a stock car in Live Oak, California. His car was a 1956 Chevy yellow in color with blue numbers and lettering. The car number was 11. He got the nickname of Tiger while racing and his oldest daughter Cherlyn gave him a coffee cup with a tiger face on it. His youngest daughter, Wynona (Wendy) while helping her Mother clean some old items from cabinets ran across some of the newspapers, racing programs from the races and other items. She took all these items and put them in a scrapbook for him and gave it to him for a birthday present that year. He said it was one of the best gifts he was ever given. Wynona now has the scrapbook in her possession.

Paul LeRoy saw three of his children marry and become parents. Cherlyn (Sherry) and her husband, Jack Henderson, had two girls, Heather LeAnn and Sara Jacqueline; Paul Randolph (Randy) and his wife Shirley (Ola), had one son, Joshua Dean and then Paul Randolph married Lori (Zabell), had a daughter, Jordana Lee, but Paul LeRoy never got to see her; Wynona (Wendy) and her husband (at the time), Gerald Peck, had Melissa Dawn; and Gary and Cynthia had two boys, Jonathan William and Thomas Matthew.

A year and a half before Paul LeRoy passed, he had to watch his son, Paul (Randy) pass on from cancer on January 13, 1995. He was a very proud father.

In 1991, Paul walked his first granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Peck down the aisle on her wedding day. He said he was very nervous, but everyone thought he did a great job. He got to see two great-grandchildren, Daniel LeRoy Mikel and Cassandra Lyn Mikel, before he passed away in 1996.
