Morganton, Ark., April 26th 1915

Dear Sir: Henry Gardner was born seven miles west of Clinton, on the old Alfred Music place, in the year 1837. Should he live to May 6th, next, he will be 78 years old. Mr. Gardner has never lived out of Van Buren County, other than 18 months service in the army. He lived up and down South Fork of Little Red River for 32 years, when he removed to Greasy Valley, where the remaining forty-five years have been passed.

Mr. Gardner was never called to serve as member of the grand or petit jury; was never before the grand jury except one instance and then as a witness. He was never called upon to pay a fine, never appeared against anyone at a trial and if he has an enemy living he does not know it.

Mr. Gardner is a Democrat and has voted that ticket ever since he was old enough to vote, and he is now always ready to vote when opportunity is presented. Forty-two years ago Mr. Gardner made a profession of religion, joining the Methodist church, and has since tried to live a true, Christian life.

Such in brief is the history of one of the county's present day pioneers, written by the undersigned, as was told to him by Uncle Henry.

Yours very respectfully,
S.C. Griggs
