Who's Who?

Hon. M. B. Lefler
Among the many worthy citizens of Van Buren County whose experience and success in life have been such as to fairly entitle them to favorable mention in this "Who's Who" column is the subject of this sketch.

Enterprising and progressive in his ideas, of strict integrity and possessed of a genial good humor, Mr. Lefler justly occupies a very high place in the estimation of friends and acquaintance among whom it has been his privilege and pleasure to spend a very large portion of his life.

M.B. Lefler was born in Johnson County, Ill., March 25, 1859, the son of G.F. and Nancy Lefler, and Friday of this week will have the privilege of celebrating the 69th anniversary of his birth. His residence in Van Buren County dates from Jan. 1877, when with his parents he located near Scotland.

On March 26th, 1882 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary E. Lindsey, and on Saturday they will have the additional pleasure of observing the 46th anniversary of their marriage. To them ten children were born and seven of whom survive.

During the sessions of the General Assembly of 1897 and 1899 Mr. Lefler represented his county as a member of the lower house an honor that was again conferred upon him during the sessions 1913 and 1915. Because of the faithful and efficient discharge of his duties he was called upon four years later to serve his district as state senator.

It is quite needless to say that politically he has always affiliated with the Democratic Party. Socially he is modest and unassuming in manner and disposition Religiously, himself and family are consistent members of the Methodist church, South, and have always taken an active part in church and school work.
