Where Did the Strawberries Go?

Program at Harding Place April 26, 2004

White County was once known as "Strawberry Capital of the World".  Pickers like these at Judsonia in 1910 found plenty of work and a ready market for the fruit, which was shipped by rail throughout the U.S.  But today the strawberries are gone.  Only a few area farmers raise them and sell them any more.  Where did the strawberries go?  The White County Historical Society spotlighted the rise and fall of strawberry farming at its regular monthly meeting April 26, 2004.  Johnny Hubach, whose family was a leader in the strawberry industry, and past president Paul Miller, who saw strawberry heydays, presented this unique program.
