WCHS SPOTLIGHT TURNS TO GENEALOGY FEB. 27

The White County Historical Society will turn its spotlight on genealogy this month.   Ruth Browning of Searcy, a newspaper columnist and retired teacher/librarian, will present a program on genealogical research and lineage societies February 27 at Harding Place.  This is the historical society’s regular monthly meeting and part of its regular ongoing emphasis on genealogical assistance.

Ruth Browning writes a regular “Milestones” column for the Searcy Daily Citizen.  She also is a member of the Little Red River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as the White County Historical Society.

She will discuss membership requirements and current projects of the DAR as well as other lineage societies such as SAR and USDR of 1812.

“I will also include a little about how one traces ancestry,” she says, “and what is acceptable and not acceptable for membership in most patriotic and lineage societies.”

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.  Bring a friend and bring your questions.   In addition to her prepared program, Ruth has agreed to answer questions from the audience.

The White County Historical Society is one of the largest service organizations in the county, with approximately 500 members.  For additional information, contact WCHS, P.O. Box 537, Searcy, AR 72145, www.whitecounty.us or wchistory@sbcglobal.net
