Pioneer Graveyard is May 22 Feature

n recognition of Heritage Month, the hitory of one of White county's
oldest pioneer graveyards will be presented to the Historical Society in
our reqular monthly meeting Monday, May 22, at Harding Place in Searcy.
The spotlight will be on Weir Cemetery, which was established 165 years
ago. The cemetery is located about 10 miles south of Searcy on
Highway 267. This is the final resting place of Delia (Richards)
Price, who died July 6, 1840. Hers is the oldest marked grave that
has been listed in White county. She was the wife of Fredrick
Price, and was only 39 when she died. The Price and Guthrie
families came to white county together from Spartanburg, South Caroline,
about the time the county ws formed in 1835. The families were
friends and intermarried, becoming significant figures in the building
of our county. Presenting the program will be Searcy
historian-genealogist Mary Beth Waters. She will show old
photographs of the area and give an overview of its history. Come
celebrate our Heritae and enjoy this infomative program. The
meeting will start at 7 p.m.
