White County developed along the Old Military Road.
What was once an Indian trail was improved by an act of Congress in 1831,
opening the door to settlers and bringing growth to our area. Although
the Old Military Road is virtually gone today, Bill Leach has been tracking it
for years, looking for remnants that are mostly hidden from view. Leach will
present a program, "Looking for the Old Military Road," to the White County
Historical Society August 28 at Harding Place in Searcy. He will show
photos of where it is still visible today and will talk about points of
interest along the route. Bill Leach is the Society's preservation
chairman and an informative and entertaining speaker. Come travel down the Old
Military Road with us. The journey begins at 7 p.m.
NEXT PROGRAM: MONDAY, AUGUST 28, 7 P.M.
