Leroy Blair, a member of the White County Historical Society who lives at nearby Clay, listed this cemetery for the first time
December 4, 2000. Following is his report:"To my knowledge, this cemetery has never been listed before. I was told about this
old cemetery by a gentleman in Judsonia who recently moved to the Clay area. He said the cemetery was off Summers Loop
Road at Holly Springs and was overgrown. Holly Springs is a small community on Highway 157 between Judsonia and
Pleasant Plains. I went to Holly Springs and talked to the lady who owns the store and gas station there. She said there, indeed,
was a very old cemetery back in the woods off Summers Loop Road. She said she had not been there for years but she
remembered it had a lot of old graves. She said to go to the bottom of the hill on 157 Highway at Holly Springs toward
Pleasant Plains and turn right on Summers Loop Road and go about a mile to where the road makes a turn to the right.
Where the road turns right, turn left onto an old dirt road and go about 200 yards. There is an opening cut in the trees (may
be an old logging road). Go down this road to the left. The cemetery sits on the right. Very overgrown, it is fenced in with two
strands of barbed wire."Blair found the graves of some Arnolds buried here, He also found 16 graves covered by stacked slabs
of rock, 53 others marked only with rocks and three depressions that were probably unmarked graves. He also took the
photograph at the beginning of this report. Additional information on the James A. Byrd family was provided in June 2001 by
Jane Hefley of Little Rock, a member of the White County Historical Society and great granddaughter of J.A. Byrd
.
